Top 100 Greatest Urbano Latino Artists Of All-Time #''s 100-80
I am gonna include our Spanish brethren on this one. This list is 100% subjective. I am not 100% the furthestmost expert on everything Urbano but I know a lot. And I have thoroughly examined the works of everyone on this list. Producers and influential DJ's will also be a part of the list. The list will take quality of works, legacy, and popularity all into an equivalent account. The Noise is not on the list because they were never a band/group. They were a crew/collective but their works were of a various artist nature and not just of the group's core members (Ivy Queen, Baby Rasta y Gringo, Bebe, Las Guanabanas, Falo, Baby Shabba, Point Breakers, Baby Ranks & Mr. Biggie). But many remember them as a group because that is how DJ Negro sold them at live events. Same for La Cripta. They are sold as a band, but they were not. I know some will wonder why these collectives did not make the list but some of their members do. The Noise and La Cripta are not groups/bands.
100 Brewley MC
One of the pioneers in Urbano Latino music. His songs such as "Ahora Es Mi Tiempo" and "Sida Rap" have left an everlasting impact on the culture. Rest in Peace.
98 Rey Pirin
Known as one of the forebearers of what is known as 'Reggaeton Playero', Rey Pirin has cultivated a dedicated international following since first bursting onto the scene in 1994. His rough voice has made him a standout among Reggaeton connoisseurs; he has also been affiliated with legendary crews such as Guatauba, Boricua Guerrero, Gargolas and of course Playero's legendary 'Dream Team' of the late 90's, early 2000's.
Eladio se ha convertido en uno de los MCs mas aclamados de la nueva era conocido por sus habilidades en el palabreo y punchlines a otro nivel. También es versátil haciendo canciones de Afro, Reggaeton y R&B cuales han logrado mucho éxito.
Undoubtedly the most popular female artist in history to originate from the Urbano Latin spectrum of music. Her unique vocals, charisma and personability has made her into the voice of today's current generation. In 2023, her album "Mañana Será Bonito" won the Latin Grammy for 'Album Of The Year' making her only 1 out of 3 artists from the Urbano genre to achieve this.
96 Cartel De Santa
Having rose into prominence in the early 00's, this group of MCs took Mexico by storm and eventually became one of the most preeminent groups in Latin Rap. Band member Dharius left the group in 2014 and it is now just MC Babo, DJ Agustin and DJ Rowan who makes the group's beats. The Rap group has been acclaimed for their Raw lyrics about life in the barrios of Mexico.
The first female to gain widespread recognition for her contributions to Latin Rap and R&B, then eventually Reggaeton. She has influenced many including peers Glory 'Glo', Jackie and Ivy Queen despite their past differences (they made peace). Lisa M famously wrote the hit single "Menealo" by Fransheska which remains a Merengue Urbano staple all these years later.
Sir Speedy (Honorable Mention)
With a very unique voice, Speedy shook the foundations of Reggaeton only a year after his debut with the famous hit "El Amor Con Ropa" produced by his frequent partner in crime, DJ Blass. Since then, he has gone on to maintain a 20+ year career of relevancy and impact with the Reggaeton culture.
93 NottyPlay
Originally starting out as solo artists in the mid 1990's, Miguel Play and Mr. Notty Boy united in 1998 on the hit song "Manos En El Aire" to begin their artistic partnership which would become a memorable one. NottyPlay became known as one of the most unique and creative duos within the Reggaeton spectrum.
The duo who created the ever transcendent Reggaeton Pop genre, also known as Pop Urbano are RKM & Ken-Y. Ironically the duo's roots are 100% underground starting out in legendary series such as The Noise, El Bando Korrupto and The Warriors by Q Mac Daddy. Only a couple years later they were the 2nd biggest duo in the world right behind Wisin & Yandel. Their debut album "The Masterpiece" is considered an all time Urbano classic.
Juaninacka (Honorable Mention)
The Spanish MC was a part of the highly influential group 'La Alta Escuela' in the 1990's. He continues to be a relevant figure within Spanish Hip Hop to this day.
This duo rose to prominence during their controversial lyrical battle vs Hector & Tito "Los Bambinos". It culminated in the classic 1999 album "Gritos De Guerra" released by El Cartel Records & Guatauba. Their works afterwards received mixed reactions but their run from 1996-1999 left a long lasting legacy.
89 Ruben DJ
One of the true pioneers in the history of the culture, alongside DJ Joel, he created many memorable hits such as "Qlea", "La Escuela", "Deja Tus Penas", "El Alcohol", "La Escuela 2" among others... "La Escuela" is the first Rap record entirely recorded in Spanish to be pressed in vinyl.
Jackie 'La Original' (Honorable Mention)
Discovered by the legendary DJ Eric Industry in the mid 1990's, Jackie La Original has left her stamp on the Reggaeton culture. From anthems of feminine empowerment such as "Soy La Original", "Sigue Creyendo", and "Llego El Weekend" ft Nico Canada to club anthems like "Es El Deseo" ft Don Omar & "Trataran" ft Big Boy, Jackie La Original has left an everlasting legacy within the Reggaeton culture.
88 J Balvin
Before Bad Bunny, for a couple of years J Balvin was the most influential Reggaeton artist in history to a new generation. He may not have the upmost classic Reggaeton albums in his catalogue (although a newer generation may differ in opinion), but songs like "Ahora Dice", "Mi Gente", "Bonita", "Ay Vamos", "6 AM" are some of the biggest hits in the history of Latin Rap & Reggaeton. J Balvin has left an indelible impact upon the Urbano Latino culture.
87 Farruko
The Reggaeton crooner may be one of the most versatile Urbano artists in history. From Rap to R&B, Trap and Reggaeton, he has mastered all styles of Urbano Latino music like Malianteo, Perreo, Discotequeo/Bailoteo, Liriqueo, Conciencia, and even Rap/Reggaeton Cristiano. Farruko has something like over 50+ international hits to his name having charted these songs in several countries.
86 Angel & Khriz
This very gifted and versatile duo made waves in the mid 00's with their universally acclaimed debut album "Los MVP" which is now considered one of the greatest albums in Reggaeton history. They have maintained an active career of over 20 years and going.
85 Big Boy
Arguably the first international Reggaeton Superstar to come from Puerto Rico (Vico C was mostly Rap back then), Big Boy was a phenomenon in the 1990's. "Donde Estan", "Maria", "Que Vayas Con Dios", "Pase Lo Que Pase", "Voz Sensual" are some of the most well known songs of Reggaeton's early days. Of course his biggest song is "Mis Ojos Lloran Por Ti" featuring Salsa Crooner Angel Lopez and it is one of the most famous songs in Latin Music history, not just Reggaeton.
84 Ranking Stone
The veteran who made waves with Playero and DJ Joe is known for having one of the best live performances around. To this day he is making thousands of concert goers enjoy with his unique brand of Reggaeton.
83 Maestro (RIP)
A standout Producer-Emcee who was both a member of the Boricua Guerrero and White Lion camps. His most famous works came producing for Voltio, Tego Calderon and Mexicano 777. But he had his own hits as well including "La Calle", "Ridiculos" and "De Pura Cepa" ft Tego Calderon.
82 Mozart La ParaConsidered one of the best freestyle (improvisadores) rappers of all time, Mozart was able to transition his success in the battle circuit into commercial recognition. His biggest hit to date is "El Sapito" ft Villano Sam but he has several other hits and collaborations with the likes of Farruko, Justin Quiles, and Chimbala among others...
81 El Chombo
Rodney Clark, also known as El Chombo did a lot for the Urbano culture. He discovered talents such as Lorna, Jimmy Bad Boy, Aldo Ranks, DJ Pablito & Predikador plus produced hit records for pretty much all of Panama. Some only know him as the guy from "Dame Tu Cosita", but El Chombo has one of the most influential legacies in the history or Urbano Latino music.
80 Sech
Sech has become one of the most prolific and prominent artists in the modern Urbano scene. He has written hits for multiple artist and been featured on many international anthems. The Panamanian born singer has really come into his own and hopefully this is only the beginning.
Guelo Star (Honrada Mencion)
